The Weeknd

I want to send a shoutout to ‘The Weeknd’ for his original mixtapes, which were later collectively named ‘The Trilogy’ A body of work that took EVERYONE who listened to it on a journey. The haunting melodies and echoes of drug-embodied depression, introduced the world to alternative R&B, which 4 years on remains a collection of work that can be admired for the effort put into it with heart/soul, which much of today’s current music is missing.

With his recent surge in profile thanks to collaborations with Ariana Grande, Drake and Wiz Khalifa along with being part of the ’50 Shades Of Grey’ soundtrack I hope this is a quality which is kept in the upcoming album ‘Beauty Behind The Madness’. Though commercially successful his first album ‘Kissland’, left much to be desired so here is hoping that this latest effort continues to raise the bar for himself and the alternative R&B sound. That’s what you need to do as an artist, push ahead and set yourself high standards.
